Civil Litigation Paralegal
Description:
Experienced paralegal will support a busy plaintiff’s side personal injury and wrongful termination litigation practice. Practice areas include auto accidents, wrongful death, premises liability, and wrongful termination. Functions of the position include:
- Monitors deadlines including pleading and discovery deadlines.
- Maintains calendars and schedules for the team’s attorneys, including court dates, court-mandated appearances, depositions, mediations, and telephone conferences with clients, insurance adjusters, attorneys, professionals, etc.
- Maintains electronic document management indices for investigation, pleadings, and discovery records.
- Coordinates with attorneys, clients, accountants, and providers to maintain accurate case costs.
- Uses standard templates to prepare and send various case-related legal documents, such as preservation letters, notices of claim, notices of representation, and client welcome letters.
- Responsible for initial drafting (using the firm’s form documents subject to editing as necessary) and timely filings of discovery answers and requests.
- Prepares summonses and subpoenas, coordinate with a process server to ensure timely, effective service of process.
- Serves and files pleadings, discovery, and correspondence (includes state and federal electronic filing).
- Assists the team with trial preparation, including assembly, trial documents, managing and organizing trial documents, witness logistics, and trial preparation.
- Performs investigative duties on cases – coordinating with investigators, talking to witnesses, doing investigative research, etc.
- Required Skills and Characteristics:
- Must have exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be experienced in both federal and state ECF.
- Must have strong phone skills as well as the initiative to make repeated follow up phone calls.
- Must be proficient at handling all administrative duties in a litigation law office, including copying, scanning, and filing.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and Adobe software programs.
- Must have strong analytical skills, accuracy, and the ability to identify and index case-related documents.
- have strong time management skills with the ability to complete tasks independently.
- Must be cooperative and work collaboratively with other members of the firm.
- Must have a positive and professional attitude and demeanor, with effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Must have excellent judgment and ability to make important decisions within the scope of prescribed duties.
- Must be trustworthy and reliable.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
